Personal
About Me - Activities & Interests
Dance - Dance has been one of the biggest constants in my life and I hope to always be able to take class, perform, choreograph and teach. I also love going to professional dance shows as often as possible.
- Paulette's Ballet Studio, Medfield MA - I studied ballet, jazz, tap, and modern from age five until I graduated high school. I also worked as an assistant teacher at the studio. I danced in annual performances at Babson College, the Prudential Center in Boston, and the Natick Mall. I also participated in several summer programs at the studio, including master classes and summer intensives.
- Walpole High School Dance Company - I joined the company as a junior in high school, and became a student choreographer as a senior. The artistic director was Richard Kim, a retired professional dancer, and the company focused on contemporary dance styles with a ballet base. WHSDC put on annual shows at the high school and were very well received.
- Dance Theatre Group, Boston University - DTG is the biggest dance group on campus and is advised by the renowned dance faculty at BU. We perform twice a year, and the shows are composed of pieces choreographed by students, faculty, and guests in residence. I danced in several pieces for both shows during my freshman year, and hope to choreograph next year.
- Dance Department, Boston University - I take an advanced Jazz Funk class from DeAnna Pellecchia, a well known local dancer and choreographer. I hope to take ballet, modern, and composition classes in the coming future.
Community service - I believe that volunteer work is an absolute essential in today's world, and that many issues need the public's attention. I also sincerely hope that I can use my journalism career and writing to raise awareness and aid for the problems plaguing the world today. I worked with several charities and organizations during high school through my church and National Honor Society. At Boston University, I participate in:
- Dance Marathon, BU's largest charity event on campus - Dance Marathon raises money for two pediatric AIDS organizations - the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and Camp Heartland.
- The Catholic Center at BU - I participate in service trips and projects that the CC organizes, such as work with homeless shelters, soup kitchens, nursing homes, and orphanages, as well as clothing drives and toy drives for the poor of Boston.
- BU Darfur Coalition - The Coalition is a group dedicated to raising awareness about the genocide in Darfur and advocating action. We organize events around campus to educate people about the conflict and to raise money.
Horseback riding - I have been taking weekly riding lessons since I was eight years old, first at High Rock Stables in Walpole, MA, and then at Shadowfax Farm in Millis, MA. I never competed or showed, but I became a fairly accomplished rider and jumper, and hope that I will always have a place to ride and be around horses.
Sports - I am a lifelong diehard Boston sports fan. I am completely obsessed with the Red Sox and am always up for watching games or talking baseball.
Art - In addition to dance, I also have an interest in other visual and performing arts including film, music, theater, photography, drawing, and painting. I took Drawing & Painting and Graphic Design classes in high school, and amassed a diverse portfolio. I also love going to art museums, seeing local shows, and checking out any and all movies.
